Sabine Freizer: October 2009 is possible date of Armenian-Turkish border opening

PanARMENIAN.Net - ICG Europe Program Director Sabine Freizer said possible date of Armenian-Turkish border opening is October this year, when Armenian President visits Turkey.

"Turkey is seriously involved in the process and expresses its interest in normalization of relations with Armenia. Let us keep in mind that this process did not started yesterday. Negotiations between Ankara and Yerevan are lasing for many years in different formats, mainly secret format in Switzerland," she noted.

She said if U.S. President Barack Obama uses the term genocide in his speech it would harm normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.

"We deem there is no need for US or France to interpret Turkish history. Turkish authorities and public opinion can do it itself," said Sabine Freizer. According to her adopting of any resolution now may have negative influence, because that would strengthen position of Turkish opposition, which is against any kind of Genocide recognition, reported RFE/RL.
