Georgian President openly denies real state of affairs in Javakhk

PanARMENIAN.Net - During June 8 visit to France, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili spoke at Paris Institute of Political Sciences. Upon delivering the report, entitled, Georgia: Laboratory of Democratic Reforms in Post-Soviet Space, President Saakashvili replied questions from the audience.

Representative of Nor Serund Armenian organization referred to discrimination policy exercised towards South Georgia’s national minority, specifically Armenians, according to UN Human Rights Committee and CoE reports. He asked Georgian President to expand on the steps undertaken by Georgian authorities to implement UN Human Rights Committee recommendations on promoting national minorities’ participation in political and cultural life of Georgia.

Georgian President, yet, announced the information to be untrue, stating that Samtskhve-Javakheti Armenians are happy with their position, with 88% of them voting for his candidature at presidential elections and 87%-for his party at local government elections. In conclusion, Mikheil Saakashvili advised Nor Serund representative to discard the reports mentioned into a wastebasket where they belong.

Nor Serund organization is highly outraged with the attitude of the President, openly denying the real state of affairs in Javakhk.

The organization expresses concern over discrimination towards Javakhk Armenians as well as instances of repression and human rights violation in Georgia, Yerkir Union told PanARMENIAN.Net
