Expert: unfortunately, Russia lacks people who can assist Hrah-Uba villagers

PanARMENIAN.Net - The story with Dagestan’s Hrah-Uba village located on the border Azerbaijani-Russian border has started long ago.

Director of the Institute for Political and Social Studies in the Black & Caspian Sea Region, Vladimir Zakharov said that the Lezgian people are true descendants of the Caucasian Albanians, to what Azerbaijan lays claims.

“The Azerbaijani leadership is aware of this, but Azerbaijanis consider only themselves to be Caucasian Albanians. That’s why Baku pursues the policy of Azerbaijanization of the Lezgian people and will not allow the village to return to Russia,” Zakharov told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

Zakharov reminded that academician Ziya Bunyatov was the first to speak about the Azerbaijani Turks’ belonging to Caucasian Albanians, later it has become an official point of view. “The situation is rather sad. Russia will not launch a confrontation with Azerbaijan, while the village will remain within Azerbaijan’s composition. Unfortunately, there are not people in Russia, who are aware of the situation and can help the Lezgians,” he concluded.

Residents of Hrah-Uba village located on the territory of Azerbaijani held a rally in Makhachkala, demanding protection of their rights as Russian citizens. “Azerbaijan demands from the village residents that they immediately accept Azerbaijani citizenship, otherwise threatening with deportation without compensation for property and land that is categorically unacceptable for us. We apply to the authorities of Russia and Dagestan, asking them to secure protection of the constitutional rights of the residents of Hrah-Uba enclave; to stop deportation of the enclave residents and to reunify families, to provide them with the opportunity of unhindered crossing of the state border; and to recognize Hrah-Uba as a Russian territory,” the demonstrators’ declaration read.
