EU Advisory Group initiates roundtable discussion at National Assembly

The EU Advisory Group initiated a Roundtable discussion entitled “Administrative Support for EU Integration Tasks in National Parliaments – Experiences of the Recently Acceded EU Member States” on March 28, at the National Assembly.

The purpose of the discussion was to present the main administrative solutions adopted in the parliaments of the EU member states in order to provide a necessary support system for the inter-parliamentary activities related to the EU membership.

The cooperation between the administrative units dealing with EU-related issues should be enhanced by proper administrative structures, application of best practices and parliament’s internal regulations. During discussion, the EU advisors presented the experiences of Poland and Latvia on the administrative structures existing in the parliaments during the pre-accession period and provided recommendations for strengthening coordination of administrative support within the National Assembly.

The EU Advisory Group policy advisor on EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Kaja Krawczyk said, “The main task of parliamentary administration in the field of inter-parliamentary cooperation is to provide information to the Members of the Parliament on the EU integration process and to coordinate all EU related activities of different parliamentary bodies”. The policy paper on the relevant topic was prepared as a background document and distributed to the participants.

The event was attended by the members of the NA Standing Committees dealing with inter-parliamentary cooperation, the members of the NA Delegations of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (PCC) and the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly (PA) as well as relevant parliamentary staff.
