"Star Wars Episode VII" plot leaks online: report

The plot of "Star Wars Episode VII", which has been kept under tight wraps, may have leaked. On Sunday, July 20, unofficial details regarding the highly-anticipated film's plot hit the web via Badass Digest, which is a generally reliable source of information, AceShowbiz said.

According to the site's Devin Faraci, the driving element of "Episode VII" is [SPOILER ALERT!] Luke Skywalker's severed hand. "A severed hand, tumbling through space. A severed hand gripping a light saber," Faraci writes.

"That hand falls onto a desert planet, where it is discovered by characters who will be our heroes. One is Daisy Ridley. The other is John Boyega, who is playing someone trying to change his path in life (again, I'm keeping it vague here). They recognize the light saber as a Jedi relic and decide to return it to the proper people," he continued.

Ridley and Boyega's characters then venture into space and later meet Han Solo and Chewbacca, "who aren't flying around in the Millenium Falcon anymore but are piloting." Han and Chewie recognize the light saber belongs to Luke, whom they haven't seen since the events of "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" thirty years earlier.

"So begins a quest to find the missing Jedi Master. Meanwhile, on an ice planet, nefarious forces are building a super weapon, one capable of destroying not planets but entire solar systems," he adds.

As Badass Digest notes, this plot sounds familiar because it is an echo of "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope". "Instead of R2 coming to Tatooine it's a hand falling from the sky, but the basic sweep of the story is similar, and intentionally so," Faraci explains.

To some fans, the plot is confusing and doesn't make any sense. Director J.J. Abrams hasn't confirmed or denied it either. The film is now in production and is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on December 18, 2015.
