"Transformers: Age of Extinction" expected to cross $1 billion globally

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" is expected to be the first movie to cross the $1 billion mark globally this year. The robot blockbuster remained strong in its fourth week of international release, adding an estimated $91.2 million to reach $886.3 million worldwide.

Now that the World Cup is over, the fourth "Transformers" film begins dominating the cinemas in seven new territories including Brazil. Opening on 510 venues in Brazil, the film debuted at number one after earning $16.5 million. Germany contributed $11.9 million from 645 locations, France generated $8.8 million from 850 locations while Italy took in $5 million from 440 locations.

Crossing the $800 million mark, the Paramount movie hovers over the two previous installments. "Transformers" earned $709 million while the sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" accumulated $836 million. The third movie, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" earned a respectful $1.12 billion.

It was China market that boosted "Age of Extinction" gross. The territory contributed $285.7 million after four weekends.
