Jane Fonda, Willem Dafoe join "The Simpsons" voice cast in Season 26

"The Simpsons" has shared details of its upcoming 26th season, including the long-planned death of a character. The show will bid farewell to a familiar face in the season premiere with "an emotional story", AceShowbiz said.

While the character is yet to be revealed, executive producer Al Jean has dropped details about the character who will meet his/her demise. The actor who voices this character has won an Emmy for the performance on the show and the character has appeared in more than two episodes.

Later during a FOX panel at the TCA summer press tour, Jean said that the soon-to-be-deceased character could return in a flashback or as a ghost.

The long-running animated series has also planned a "Futurama" crossover episode. The said installment is slated to air November 9, with the cast of the Comedy Central series, including Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, Phil LaMarr, Lauren Tom, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille, set to lend their voices.

In the episode titled "Simpsorama", Bender travels back in time to kill Bart because Bart does something in the present that has terrible consequences for the future.

Also joining the voice cast of "The Simpsons" next season are Jane Fonda and Willem Dafoe. Fonda will play Mr. Burns' girlfriend, Democratic Assemblywoman Maxine Lombard, while Dafoe will voice Bart's tough new teacher, Mr. Lassen.

"The Simpsons" season 26 will premiere Sunday, September 28 at 9/8c on FOX.
