Canadian employment minister in Armenia to further bilateral ties

Members of the Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) were at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan, Armenia when Jason Kenney, Canada’s Minister of Employment and Social Development and Minister for Multiculturalism arrived in Armenia on Monday, July 28, 2014 for a three day official visit.

Members of the Armenian government, Canada’s Ambassador to Armenia John Kur Also, Canada’s Honorary Consul to Armenia Artashes Emin were also present, the ANCC reported.

ANCC members Sam Manougian and Vahe Poladian were supposed to accompany Minister Kenney at various meetings with Canadian businesses operating in Armenia.

“Minister Kenney’s official visit to Armenia is a perfect opportunity for Canada to develop closer relations with Armenia and to better acquaint the Canadian public with the challenges faced by Armenia,” said ANCC President Dr. Girair Basmajian. “We are certain that our delegation in Armenia will assist Minister Kenney to observe firsthand the situation of Syrian-Armenians who have taken refuge in Armenia due to the conflict in Syria and the problems caused by Azerbaijan and Turkey’s illegal blockade of Armenia.”

Minister Kenney’s visit is the second by a sitting Cabinet minister to Armenia and an important step in furthering relations between Canada and Armenia.
