Mark Wahlberg to topline J.C. Chandor's “Deepwater Horizon”

Mark Wahlberg is in talks to star in J.C. Chandor's next film, “Deepwater Horizon,” TheWrap said citing an individual familiar with the project.

Based on the New York Times article “Deepwater Horizon's Final Hour” by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul, the Summit Entertainment and Participant Media film tells the story of the Deepwater Horizon spill, which is considered the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry.

“Deepwater” will focus on those who worked on the oil rig and the final minutes leading up to the April 20, 2010 disaster that ultimately killed 11 and injured 16 others. Wahlberg will play the second in command of the doomed rig. A late spring/early summer 2015 production start is eyed.

Wahlberg most recently starred in Michael Bay‘s “Transformers: Age of Extinction.”
