Steve Carrell as obsessive wrestling coach in “Foxcatcher” trailer

Steve Carrell's stunning transformation into obsessive wrestling coach and eccentric millionaire John du Pont is the highlight of the new trailer for “Foxcatcher”, TheWrap reported.

“Athletes need role models,” he says a few seconds before slapping Olympian Mark Schultz, played by Channing Tatum. “Like anyone they need people to look up to.”

“I want more than anything to win a gold medal and we have people who can do that, but there are psychological issues we need to take care of.”

The upcoming film which is based on a true story is set in the period leading up to the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. It depicts the harrowing, violent relationship between du Pont and Schulz. A previous trailer for the Bennett Miller film focused on Tatum's intense portrayal of the Olympian.

But this latest look at the Sony Pictures Classics release — written by E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman and co-starring Mark Ruffalo, Sienna Miller and Vanessa Redgrave – is a character study of du Pont and his disturbing intensity. Carrell underwent a dramatic physical and emotional transformation for “Foxcatcher” and at times it's hard to believe he's the same man who played a good-natured buffoon for so many seasons on “The Office.”

“I am leading men,” he says. “I am training them. I am teaching them. I am giving them a dream. And I am giving America hope.”

“Foxcatcher” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and will be released Nov. 14.
