Meg Ryan has joined Mad Men's Sally Draper, Kiernan Shipka, in the indie high-school comedy Fan Girl, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The film is the directorial debut of Paul Jarrett, and it centers on a post-millennial 15-year-old (Shipka) whose two obsessions are making movies and the real-life alternative rock band All Time Low. She gets a chance to see the band live and film the concert for a class project.

Kara Hayward, the female lead in Moonrise Kingdom, features as her smart-mouthed best friend, with Ryan, Scott Adsit (30 Rock), Bill Sage (The Boy) and newcomer Joshua Boone rounding out the cast.

All Time Low appear as themselves and contributed much of the soundtrack.

Gina O’Brien wrote the screenplay based on her experiences with her own daughter. It's her second writing credit after Once More With Feeling, which screened at Sundance and which Jarrett produced. She is executive producing Fan Girl with Jonathan Gray. Jarrett and Nick Huston are producing through their Rosetta Films alongside Literally Films and Adam Spielberg through his Filament Productions.

Shipka has earned acclaim as Don Draper's contemplative daughter on the AMC drama, and she stars in Lifetime's Flowers in the Attic movies and writer-director Naomi Foner's Very Good Girls. Her upcoming projects include the horror project February opposite Emma Roberts.

Ryan has upcoming her directorial debut Ithaca, a WWII-era coming-of-age drama in which she also stars. The film reunites her with her Sleepless in Seattle co-star Tom Hanks, who is executive producing and making a cameo.
