"Into the Woods" stellar cast sings in new featurette

A new featurette of "Into the Woods" bears plenty of never-before-seen scenes including a singing Meryl Streep. Portraying the evil witch, the veteran actress sings "Stay With Me" to Rapunzel after finding out that she plans to leave her for the prince, AceShowbiz said.

The rest of the cast such as Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt and James Corden sing "I Wish", which is a reminder of the movie's theme "be careful what you wish for." The songs won composer Stephen Sondheim a Tony Award for Best Score in the stage musical version.

The featurette also gives interviews with the cast, director Rob Marshall, and Sondheim. "Rob Marshall really is amazing. He has such a musical sensibility. He actually has a percussive sense of movement of the piece, almost like a conductor," Streep sang the director praise. Johnny Depp called Marshall "the real thing."

Based on Tony-winning original musical by James Lapine and Sondheim, "Into the Woods" revolves around a baker and his wife's quest to break a witch's curse in order to start a family. Along the way, they encounter several well-known fairytale characters, and together they learn what happens after "happily ever after."

The musical pic opens in U.S. theaters December 25.
