Oppo launches world's slimmest smartphone at 4.85mm

Oppo has launched the world's slimmest smartphone in the form of the R5, a device measuring in at just 4.85mm thin, Digital Spy said.

The record was previously held by fellow Chinese manufacturer Gionee, whose Elife S5.1 handset came in at 5.15mm.

Despite its ultra-skinny form factor, the Oppo R5 packs some beefy specs, including a 5.2-inch full HD AMOLED screen and a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor backed up by 2GB of RAM.

Weighing in at 155g, the handset also includes a 13-megapixel camera on the rear, a 5-megapixel snapper on the front, and a 2,000 mAh battery.

The device's slender shell allows no room for a microSD slot or a 3.5mm headphone port, meaning that the included micro-USB adapter or Bluetooth headphones must be used for music playback, and users are stuck with 16GB of storage.

The Oppo R5 will be released globally in December, coming in silver, gold and grey, with a launch price of $499.
