Sony rolls out Alpha A7 II camera with 5-axis optical image stabilization

Sony has expanded its camera range with the launch of the Alpha A7 II, Digital Spy said.

The interchangeable lens compact system snapper is the world's first full-frame camera to include 5-axis optical image stabilization (OIS).

The Alpha A7 II, which comes with a 24.3-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor on board, is also the smallest and lightest camera of its kind on the market.

Its built-in OIS system works with multiple E-mount lenses - even those lacking Optical SteadyShot - and is said to offer the equivalent of up to 4.5 stops of added stabilisation.

The camera includes numerous improvements over the original Alpha A7, including a 117-point focal plane phase-detection AF sensor, an improved motion prediction algorithm and a faster start-up time.

Sony's Alpha A7 II will be released in January, with pricing yet to be announced.
