“Far from the Madding Crowd" Thomas Hardy novel adaptation trailer

“Far from the Madding Crowd" has been released, featuring Carey Mulligan's singing voice. The actress is heard singing a folk song titled "Let No Man Steal Your Thyme", backed up by co-star Michael Sheen, in the first trailer of the period drama, AceShowbiz said.

The film is based on Thomas Hardy's novel of the same name. It was Hardy's first classic English pastoral novel which was published 140 years ago on November 23, 1874. Mulligan stars as Bathsheba Everdene who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor.

This timeless story of Bathsheba's choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love - as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.

Thomas Vinterberg is directing the movie based on Hardy's work and a screenplay by David Nicholls. It was filmed against backdrop of Hardy's home county of Dorset.

"Far from the Madding Crowd" is set to debut in limited U.S. theaters on May 1, 2015.
