Disney developing family adventure movie “Ed Terrestrial”

Disney is developing the family adventure movie Ed Terrestrial, hiring Michael Starrbury to rewrite the spec script, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The studio bought the spec by Greg Erb and Jason Oremland. While the plot is being kept under wraps for now, sources say it is a family film involving an extraterrestrial being.

Shrek director Andrew Adamson, whose recent work includes Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away, is producing. Louie Provost is overseeing the project for Disney.

Starrbury has been building up his career with several projects lately. He recently sold an action-adventure spec titled ARES to Paramount. The script is said to be in the vein of Indiana Jones and Men in Black in what the studio hopes will start a franchise.

Starrbury wrote The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete, the George Tillman Jr.-directed drama that premiered at Sundance in 2013 and was released by Lionsgate. He also wrote an animated pilot titled Legends that is in post at Comedy Central and has The Great Unknown in development at New Line with Jorma Taccone attached to direct.
