British Prime Minister David Cameron is to meet the European Commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker, at the start of a week-long charm offensive in which he will visit five European leaders in a bid to renegotiate the terms of the UK’s EU membership, the Guardian reports.

On Monday, May 25 night, Juncker will have a “working dinner” with the Prime Minister at his country residence of Chequers, which Downing Street says will give Cameron a chance to talk to him at more length about the British people’s concerns over the EU.

A spokesperson stressed that the meeting was unlikely to yield any conclusive solutions and that the terms of Britain’s EU membership was not just a topic for consideration by the commission, but also the European council and the separate member states.

On Thursday, after the state opening of parliament on Wednesday, Cameron will fly around Europe to meet the Danish Prime Minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, in Copenhagen, the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, in the Hague and the French President, François Hollande, in Paris. The following day he will meet the Polish Prime Minister, Ewa Kopacz, in Warsaw and the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, in Berlin.

The Prime Minister aims to speak to all other leaders of the 27 EU member states before a European council summit scheduled for June 25-26.
