Stephen King adaptation “Under the Dome” canceled after Season 3

CBS' summer series "Under the Dome" will end for good. The network will not order a fourth year of the drama and the upcoming September 10 episode will be the series finale, AceShowbiz reports.

"Two years ago, 'Under the Dome' broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world," said Nina Tassler, chair of CBS Entertainment. " 'Dome's' event storytelling and multiplatform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of 'Extant' and 'Zoo'. We're excited to present the final chapter in Chester's Mill as the story comes full circle, with the dome coming down as dramatically as it went up."

As previously reported, the season ender will reveal the dome and answer many questions. Not all of the characters will survive as a conflict between two groups emerges.

"Under the Dome" had experienced ratings decline since its summer 2013 debut. The current season is averaging 4.9 million in total viewers although it remains among higher-rated scripted shows. The fate of the other two summer fillers, "Extant" and "Zoo", are still unknown.
