EC's Tusk rules out possibility of Russia-Europe anti-IS coalition

European Council President Donald Tusk has ruled out the possibility of a coalition with Russia in Syria as long it targets moderate Syrian opposition groups, the Associated Press reports.

Tusk said Wednesday, November 25, that the downing of a Russian warplane by Turkey on Tuesday "underlines the difficult situation in Syria where there are different actors with different interests conducting different operations with different aims."

He said there is only one way to avoid such incidents in the future and that is to concentrate all resources on the fight against the Islamic State group.

He said "this should be a common objective" and "there will be never be a coalition to fight the moderate Syrian opposition. Everybody needs to understand that."
