Coldplay debuts “Hymn for the Weekend” featuring Beyonce

Coldplay keeps the anticipation of their "A Head Full of Dreams" album high by releasing a new song off it. After previewing it a few days ago, the British band debuted "Hymn for the Weeknd" in its entirety on Monday, November 30, AceShowbiz reports.

Premiered on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show, the track boasts guest vocals from Beyonce Knowles. It has been described as a "party song" but it isn't your typical party jam. Over the gospel-tinged beat, Colplay's lead vocalist Chris Martin is joined by Queen Bey on the chorus.

"So drink from me, drink from me/ When I was so thirsty," she sings. "We're on a symphony/ Now I just can't get enough/ Put your wings on me, wings on me/ When I was so heavy/ We're on a symphony/ When I'm lower, lower, lower, low."

Martin has told the Wall Street Journal that "Hymn for the Weekend" is a result of his desire to make a club-friendly song. "I thought I'd like to have a song called 'Drinks on Me' where you sit on the side of a club and buy everyone drinks because you're so f**king cool," he explained.

"I was chuckling about that, when this melody came - 'drinks on me, drinks on me' - then the rest of the song came out," he added. "I presented it to the rest of the band and they said, 'We love this song, but there's no way you can sing 'drinks on me.' ' So that changed into 'drink from me' and the idea of having an angelic person in your life. Then that turned into asking Beyonce to sing on it."

In a phone interview with Annie Mac, Colplay's bassist Guy Berryman gushed over Bey and revealed she did her part in only five minutes. "She came in, she did her thing. She's unbelievably professional," he said. "I think she was in and out in five minutes, and we're just so blessed to have her sing on one of our songs."

"Hymn for the Weekend" is the latest offering from Coldplay's upcoming album, which is due out on December 4. The record has also been preceded by lead single "Adventure of a Lifetime" and the Gwyneth Paltrow-assisted "Everglow".
