Antoine de Saint-Exupéry - based “Little Prince” tops Japan's box office

“The Little Prince” topped the Japanese box office in its second weekend on release, rising from the number three spot, Variety reports.

For the Nov. 28-29 frame, with Warner distributing, the film earned $634,000 on 61,000 admissions. This represented a 27% drop in BO from the previous weekend.

The film attracted both families and fans of the original Antoine de Saint-Exupéry novel, which has been a generations-spanning best-seller in Japan.

The Showgate animation “Girls und Panzer” hung onto its number two rank for a second weekend, recording $528,000 on 42,000 admissions.

The only new entry to the top ten was Gaga’s “Woman in Gold,” which debuted at number nine with $229,000 from 22,600 admissions to 119 screens. Star Helen Mirren and director Simon Curtis appeared at the Tokyo International Film Festival last month to promote the film, which screened out of competition.
