Russia may cut price for Armenia gas supplies, Energy Minister says

The government of Armenia has applied to Moscow for a reduction of gas price, the Minister of Economy told reporters Wednesday, January 20, PastInfo reports.

“The price of energy carriers obviously plays a significant role for our economy, as it determines electricity tariffs,” Karen Chshmarityan said. “Missing this opportunity and not giving it a try would be wrong, taking into account the fact that many Armenian companies are major consumers of gas and electricity.”

Chshmarityan failed to name the exact figure, noting, however, that a possibility of price cut does exist.

According to non-official sources, the price of natural gas imported from Russia will drop by 20%.
