Andrew Garfield to topline crime thriller “Under the Silver Lake”

As a banner year looms thanks to Martin Scorsese‘s “Silence” and Mel Gibson‘s “Hacksaw Ridge”, Andrew Garfield has signed on to star in “Under the Silver Lake”, a modern day noir crime thriller set in Los Angeles that hails from “It Follows” writer-director David Robert Mitchell, it was announced Wednesday, May 4, according to TheWrap.

Michael De Luca will produce under his eponymous production company along with Chris Bender, Jake Weiner and Adele Romanski. Production is set to start at the end of summer, with Insiders handling international distribution.

Mitchell earned raves from critics and genre fans alike with “It Follows,” which served as his second film following his acclaimed debut “The Myth of the American Sleepover.”

“David Robert Mitchell is one of the great new voices in cinema and I am honored to be working with him and the entire producing team. I look forward to working with the esteemed team at Insiders to bring David’s film to audiences around the world,” said De Luca, who has tapped Lucy Kitada to oversee the project for Michael De Luca Productions.

“I’m super excited to be working with Andrew and Insiders. We have a really great team. I can’t wait to make and share this film with audiences,” added Mitchell.

Garfield recently starred in “99 Homes” and has worked with a wide range of directors including Mark Romanek, Terry Gilliam, Spike Jonze and Robert Redford. In 2012, he made his Broadway debut with his Tony-nominated turn in Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman,” which was directed by Mike Nichols.
