TrustNordisk acquires Fenar Ahmad’s action thriller “Darkland”

In the run to the AFM, TrustNordisk has acquired international sales to “Darkland”, an action thriller directed by Scandinavian emerging helmer Fenar Ahmad, and produced by up-and-coming Danish outfit Profile Pictures, Variety reports.

“Darkland” stars Dar Salim (“Exodus,” “Game of Thrones”) as Zaid, a successful surgeon who has it all and sets off to avenge the murder of his brother and bring down all the criminal gangs in Copenhagen. But Zaid’s persistent battle results in serious consequences for himself and his family, including his pregnant girlfriend.

Salim stars opposite Stine Fischer Christensen (“After the Wedding”), Roland Møller (“Land of Mine”), and Dulfi Al-Jabouri (“A War”).

“We look very much forward to representing ‘Darkland’ and look forward to working with everyone at Profile Pictures,” said Susan Wendt, head of sales at TrustNordisk. “Fenar Ahmad is definitely a director to keep an eye on with his unique directing style, and we are certain that audiences around the world will embrace the film.”

“Darkland” is produced by Jacob Jarek for Profile Pictures, the outfit behind Jens Dahl’s upcoming thriller “3 Things” and Ali Abbasi’s “Shelley.” The movie is backed by the Danish Film Institute, DR, and Scanbox Entertainment. Thor Sigurjonsson, Ditte Milsted, and Caroline Schlüter Bingestam exec produced.

Scanbox Entertainment will distribute the movie across the Nordics.

Ahmad, a graduate from the Super16 film school in Copenhagen, had his 2009 short “Megaheavy” play at Berlin.
