Armenia, EU to finalize framework agreement by end of 2017: diplomat

A new framework agreement between Armenia and the European Union will be completed by the end of 2017, Deputy Foreign Minister Karen Nazaryan said at a parliament session on Thursday, November 3.

"I hope the deal will be finalized in the near future," Novosti-Armenia cited Nazaryan as saying. "The next meeting on the issue is slated for December, set to be held in Brussels."

According to him, cooperation with the 28-nation block is among Armenia's top priorities.

On January 2, 2015, Armenia joined the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) (with Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan). Despite Armenia's decision in September 2013 not to sign an Association Agreement with the EU, including a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement (AA/DCFTA), Armenia and the Union continue their political and trade dialogue in areas where this is compatible with Armenia’s new obligations to the EEU.
