Christine & The Queens among acts announced for Annual Hootenanny

Christine & The Queens and Chaka Khan are among the acts that have been announced for Jools’ Annual Hootenanny 2016, NME said.

Airing on December 31 on BBC Two, the line-up will also feature Roy Wood, Rag’n’Bone Man, Gregory Porter, ABC, Seasick Steve, Imelda May, Dr. John Cooper Clark and Hugh Cornwell as well as Astroy and Mickey UB40.

Christine & The Queens released her debut ‘Chaleur Humaine’ in the UK in February, having originally issued the French edition in June 2014. According to a statement, viewers can “expect a treat from her ‘Chaleur Humaine album” with Héloise herself “sitting in with Jools and the Orchestra for an intriguing cover.”

During an interview with NME, Letissier teased what to expect from her follow-up album, saying: “I’m going to redefine what it means to be sexy, and it’s going to be creepy as hell. Because I could never do the ‘sexy’ way of being sexy.”

“The first album was a coming-of-age album – I don’t like the phrase, but when you listen to it you can tell I was having a hard time, that I wasn’t socially relating to people. Since then, things have happened to me, including sexual experiences.”

“I’ve experienced being properly lost in my desires and it’s really influenced my writing. I’m obsessed with the lusting female figure in pop music: I don’t know why George Michael should be able to sing ‘I Want Your Sex’ and I can’t, because I do. I want their sex as well, you know?”
