Karabakh votes overwhelmingly for constitutional reforms

Preliminary results show that the majority of the people of Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) on Monday, February 20 voted in favor of constitutional changes.

The proposed constitutional amendments -- already endorsed by at least 25% of registered voters -- are likely to see Karabakh's form of governance change from semi-presidential to fully presidential.

As of 3am on Tuesday, 87,55 % voted in favor and 9.7% turned down the amendments.

According to deputy chairman of Referendum Central Commission Yeghishe Arzoumanyan, 79,314 citizens or 76.44 % out of 103,766 - the total number of eligible voters - participated in the poll on Monday.

The final results are expected to be unveiled on Tuesday evening when all the votes are counted.
