British expert says "mood has changed" in Karabakh peace process

British journalist and writer on the Caucasus Thomas de Waal said on Thursday, January 18 that the mood has changed in the process of the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group issued a statement following a meeting with Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign policy chiefs, revealing that the Ministers have agreed upon the necessity of taking concrete measures to prepare the populations for peace. They also said that a possible summit between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia would give a strong impulse to the dynamic of negotiations.

"Suddenly the mood has changed on #Nkpeace. Very positive statement," de Waal said in a tweet.

Now time to get down to work, involve more stakeholders, start debate on difficult issues in society."

During the meeting in Paris, the co-chairs reviewed with the Ministers key principles and parameters for the current phase of the negotiation process.

The co-chairs underlined the importance of possible mutually beneficial initiatives designed to fulfill the economic potential of the region.

The co-chairs plan to meet the leaders of the two countries in the near future.
