Armenia PM cautiously optimistic about coronavirus

The coronavirus situation has significantly improved in Armenia and the country has embarked on a path to recovery, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a briefing on Wednesday, July 29.

Pashinyan added, however, that if authorities loosen control, the country could quickly return to the crisis.

The Prime Minister said the decline in the number of new coronavirus cases each day is due to the government's anti-epidemic measures.

Health Minister Arsen Torosyan said, meanwhile, that Armenia has a "real chance" to decrease the number of infections. He said there are now "a lot of free beds" in the country and revealed that some of the medical facilities will go back to their normal activity.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Armenia grew by 308 to reach 37,937 on Wednesday morning. So far, 27,824 people have recovered, 723 have died from the coronavirus in the country, while 225 others carrying the virus have died from other causes.
