A new study has determined that Armenia is among the top 10 affordable cities for digital nomads who are looking to relocate and work remotely abroad, for reasons including the cheap beer that work tourists can find in the country.

The study was conducted by a British insurance company, CIA Landlords, and focuses on cities in time zones which are on GMT or ±3 hours. The survey took into consideration the cost of living for essentials – rent, transport, bills and wifi costs. It also looked at the average cost per night for an Airbnb as well as takeaway and pint prices. The study also assessed how easy it is to travel to and from London (if Covid-19 restrictions are not considered).

While Armenia has not been included among the dream remote work locations – which have been chosen for both cost and popularity reasons – the country is particularly attractive in terms of cheap bills, rent and wifi cost.

A good option for arranging your remote working adventure would be renting out a home on Airbnb which would cost £21 ($27-28) per night on average in Yerevan, the study says, while the monthly rent price in the Armenian capital hovers around £294 ($386).

Takeaway food and a pint of beer (around 0.6 liters), meanwhile, cost £4.18 ($5.5) and £1.00 ($1.3), respectively.

Cost-wise, the study concluded that Tirana in Albania, would be the perfect choice for nomads, but when everything, including the popularity of a destination, is considered, Madrid comes out the winner, while Istanbul and Budapest came second and third.

On the other end of the study, Monaco, Geneva (Switzerland) and Vaduz (the capital of Liechtenstein) have been recognized as the worst places to work remotely in Europe, particularly due to high average rents and high takeaway costs.
