Active stage of Karabakh talks not over, OSCE MG format not exhausted

PanARMENIAN.Net - The active stage of the Nagorno Karabakh talks is not over yet, RA National Assembly Vice Speaker, ARF Dashnaktsutyun Bureau member Vahan Hovhannisian told a news conference in Yerevan. Optimism of mediators is subjective, according to him. "However I do not think that the OSCE MG format has been exhausted. The mediators have thorough knowledge of the conflict. They are highly professional and it will be almost impossible to replace them. Talks on changing the format come from Azerbaijan," Mr Hovhannisian said.

He emphasized that Ilham Aliyev seems to be more inclined to a dialogue during the talks than upon return to Baku. "Azerbaijan practices a system of statements for internal and external use. What President Aliyev says in Baku is absolutely contrary to what he says during negotiations. This can be explained by cultivation of the image of enemy-Armenian. We should not forget that the leadership and opposition collide on two issues: oil and Karabakh. Living conditions of the population, democracy and reforms are not discussed. From this standpoint the situation in Armenia is much better. We have no reports for internal and external use. We say the same things everywhere," Vahan Hovhannisian said.
