Property of Armenian exiled from Azerbaijan late 20th century totals $5 billion

PanARMENIAN.Net - The property of Armenians exiled from Azerbaijan at the end of the 20th century totals $5 billion, according to an Armenian official.

"International practice doesn't offer a solution to this problem. There is no system in the world which could oblige the perpetrator-state to pay the damages," said Gagik Yeganyan, head of the migration division at the Ministry of Territorial Administration.

"We helped 1100 refugees to draw up suits and address the European Court of Human Rights. If the complaints are satisfied, 93 thousand suits will be brought against the Azerbaijan," he said, Novosti Armenia reports.

Some 500 thousand Armenians were deported from Azerbaijan over the Nagorno Karabakh during the period from 1988 to 1991. 350 thousand came to Armenia, the rest settled in CIS countries, Europe and the U.S.
