Much has to be improved in Armenian laws' implementation

PanARMENIAN.Net - "First of all, I'd like to thank RA President Serzh Sargsyan for the award granted within Venice Commission - Armenia collaboration frameworks," Venice Commission Secretary General Gianni Buquicchio told a news conference today.

According to him, Venice Commission - Armenia collaboration started since 1995, with Armenia's joining the Commission. "The main issues of collaboration were related to RA constitutional reforms, introduction of changes in RA Electoral Codex, RA laws on rallies and media," Buquicchio noted.

He emphasized that during 15 years of collaboration situation in Armenia has changed for the better, with Armenia undertaking serious steps towards democratization of society. Many issues are waiting to be resolved, still all of them can't be resolved at the same time.

"After March 1, 2008 events, RA Government introduced serious changes to the law specified, yet through Venice Commission interference, the draft law was improved. There's nothing wrong with RA legislation, the problem lies not in legislation contents but in its effective implementation. Much needs to be done in this sphere," Buquicchio added.

On September 29, 2009, RA President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on awarding Venice Commission Secretary General Gianni Buquicchio with an honorary order for his contributions to RA eurointegration and implementation of legal reforms in Armenia.
