What price should Armenia pay for Turkish border opening?

March 14, 2009 - 22:45 AMT  03:25 GMT
With the Armenian-Turkish border opened, if it should ever happen, there would be put a final stop to the story of the World War I. If we believe the Turkish sources (and there is absolutely no ground not to believe them), Armenia has agreed to the «preconditions» put forward by Ankara. As we recall, the basic condition was the recognition of the modern borders of Turkey after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. After the USSR breakdown, Turkey has been looking forward to getting confirmation from Armenia and Russia of her right of full succession of the Soviet Union including all the agreements, in spite of the fact that the Moscow and Kars treaties were signed by Russia and not by the USSR.

In 2008 the major event in the region was the visit of Turkish President to Yerevan

December 25, 2008 - 19:56 AMT  03:25 GMT
The year of 2008 was also a time of reformatting the South Caucasus Region. After the «five-day» war of Georgia against South Ossetia it became clear that new division lines were to be outlined in the region. No doubt unwilling to do it himself, President of Georgia made a «regal» present to RF that had long been waiting for an opportunity to gain revenge against the USA for the too profound an interference it had in the solution of Caucasus problems. The result was a much more chaotic bedlam in which even the most «skillful» states were unable to "catch a fish".
