Last week of Summer 2009 witnesses Open Music Fest and National Dances

"Toros Roslin's Birth", a fresco by Minas, was finally restored by two Italian masters.

Thanks to Open Music Fest, people in Yerevan had the chance to enjoy Anna Mayilyan's soprano and Tatevik Baghdasaryan's flute accompanied by Armenia's National Chamber Orchestra (conductor: Aram Karabekyan).
PanARMENIAN.Net - The same day, "Narekatsi" cultural centre hosted the opening of "Natural Art - Land Art" exhibition. On the last Friday of each month, the centre organizes free courses of Armenian national dances. Its small lobby was full of people of different ages, including tourists. Split into groups, they attempted to repeat the movements demonstrated by the dancers of Karin ensemble. Its supervisor Gagik Ginosyan, participant in Artsakh war, teaches ancient Armenian dances free of charge.

On Wednesday, August 27, memorial plaque to Armenian writer Kostan Zaryan and his son, architect Armen Zaryan, was erected in Yerevan (address: 17 str. Abovyan). On the occasion of Armen Zaryans 95th birth anniversary, Armenian Museum of Architects next day hosted the presentation of a book devoted to the great architect's life and activity. Following his father's example, Armen Zaryan left Italy at age 59 and settled in Soviet Armenia together with his family.

"Toros Roslin's Birth", a fresco by Minas, was finally restored thanks to two Italian masters who spent two years on repairing Armenian artist's work. Painted on the cafeteria wall of former electric plant, the fresco was removed from ruins of crumbled building and taken to Djajdjur, Minas' native village where it is still being partially kept. However, 8 other frescos by one of great XX century Armenian painters still face the threat of destruction. Their recovery requires 10 million Drams, a sum to be hopefully paid by some benefactor for saving the masterpieces.

Cultural summer in Yerevan ended with the avan-garde folk concert of "Katuner" group. On team leader Vahagn Hayrapetyan's birthday, lovers of his art gathered to enjoy the performance of six talented young musicians. Opening and closing parts of the concert were accompanied by State Chamber Orchestra's music.
