Dustr Marianna company had to terminate cheese production

PanARMENIAN.Net - Director of Dustr Marianna LLC said that the company had to terminate cheese production four months ago over the rise in prices for milk.

“Procurement price for 1 liter of milk is currently AMD 160 against 130 in 2009,” Tigran Vardanyan told a PanARMENIAN.net reporter during Armprodexpo 2010 exhibition held in Yerevan on November 23-26.

It is known that prices for cheese have increased sharply over the past month in Armenia, however, the country’s authorities do not take any action.

According to Vardanyan, the situation is reasoned by the fact that it is not advantageous for farmers to keep their livestock and sell milk, the price for which had been very low.

He said that stimulation of animal husbandry development could allow overcoming the current situation. However, it should be done so that neither farmers, nor producers suffer.

Vardanyan noted that the company operates with losses, however, all efforts will be exerted not to increase prices for dairy products until the end of 2010.
