Ex -Prime Minister: Armenian NPP must be replaced with solar and wind power plants

PanARMENIAN.Net - A catastrophe in Japan must make Armenia give a serious thought to local NPP issue, according to former Armenian Prime Minister, Russian-Armenian (Slavonian) University rector.

As Armen Darbinyan stressed during a public lecture, ''even Japan, with all of its technological development was unable to prevent the disaster. Armenia, however, insists on having enough capacity to withstand a possible catastrophe. Our source of certainty is unclear, considering the country’s lack of relevant technologies.''

As the same time, he expressed his doubts abut the absolute necessity of having a nuclear power plant in Armenia. According to the expert, it would be more reasonable to replace it with solar and wind power plants, the University press service reported.
