ArmenTel lowers Internet tariffs

Review of September 27 - October 4 telecommunication and information technology events.

ArmenTel JCSC has announced 5-fold price reduction for symmetric internet access within the framework of Corporate Internet service. Monthly fee for 1 Mbps unlimited tariff plan was cut to AMD 144000; monthly fee for 2, 3 and 4 Mbps unlimited tariff plans reduced to AMD 246000, 366000 and 480000 respectively. A possibility to increase connection speed by 1 Mbps per AMD 120000 is provided, as well as that of 80% bandwidth increase. The price of AMD158000, 271000, 402000 and 528000 was set for 1, 2, 3 and 4 Mbps increased bandwidth tariff plans. AMD 132000 price is established per additional 1Mbps. 8 free IP addresses are provided in case of joining one of the tariff plans above.

PanARMENIAN.Net - Besides, ArmenTel has announced reduction of mobile internet tariffs for legal persons in the framework of Internet for Everyone service. A price for 1Mb of incoming/outgoing GPRS traffic has been reduced from AMD150 to 90.

According to Internet in Armenia report prepared by Circle.am and Business 24 internet project for June-August 2010, Beeline tops Armenia’s leading providers. The top ten Internet providers are determined by IP addresses of registered visits from Armenia. According to the results for August, Beeline’s share made 40.94%. Orange Armenia (15.78%) is the second on the list, due to affordable offers for mobile Internet connection, increase in Internet packages volumes and speed. It is followed by VivaCell-MTS (10.98). Then come ADC (6.61%), Arminco (5.02%), Ucom (4.22%), Cornet-AM (3.95%), iCON (3.43%), Bionet (1.35%) and Web (1.21%).

51% of websites, registered in Circle.am Armenian ranking system, are located within .am domain zone. .com zone has a 29% share; .ru - 8%; .net - 3%, .info-3%, other domain zones -6%. According to a report developed by Circle.am and Business 24 project, 80% of Armenian websites use foreign hosting, with only 20% of servers situated in Armenia. A 2% decrease in Armenia-hosted websites was observed in summer 2010 compared to spring results, proving the country is not up to facing foreign competition.

VivaCell-MTS, a subsidiary of Mobile TeleSystems OJSC, annouced that from September 28 to December 1 purchasing an Android-powered smartphone VivaCell-MTS subscribers can get up to AMD 85000 bonus. After getting a smartphone at VivaCell-MTS service center the subscriber needs to indicate the phone number registered under his/her name for which s/he would like to have the bonus account activated. During 6 months after activation of the Smart Bonus, when calling or sending SMS to VivaCell-MTS subscribers, as well as when surfing the Internet from the indicated phone number, one first uses the bonus account, and go on using his/her main account only after its exhaustion. The size of the bonus depends on the smartphone model.

The Android-powered Galaxy S incorporates a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen and a 1 GHz application processor that enables vibrant HD videos, rich augmented reality content through Layar Reality Browser, and advanced LBS (Location Based Services). The Social Hub provides always-on social networks connectivity allowing users to enjoy communication. Samsung Galaxy S smartphone is available in two options: with 16 GB and 8 GB internal memory – for AMD 315000 and AMD 295000 respectively. Samsung Galaxy S smartphones obtained at VivaCell-MTS service centers are under the 12-month official guarantee of the manufacturer. The phone can also be obtained by installment, in the framework of the company’s cooperation with Unibank.

Mariam and Grapalat fonts, approved as compulsory ones by the Armenian government, will be introduced in the official document circulation of Armenia within a month. Grapalat font will be used as a screen one, while Mariam font will be used also as a type font.

Arek Armenian typeface developed by graphic designer Khajag Apelian, Netherlands, was awarded the main prize at Granshan 2010, 3rd International Eastern Type Design Competition.
