U.S. Ambassador to Armenia awards Synopsys Armenia for corporate citizenship, innovation and exemplary business practices in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - On November 10, 2010, Honorable Marie L. Yavanovitch, Ambassador of the United States of America, revealed a special plaque at the Synopsys Armenia R&D Center in Yerevan. The plague is signed by Under Secretary of Economic, Energy and Agricultural Affairs Robert Hormats. The special citation was offered to Synopsys “in recognition of corporate citizenship, innovation and exemplary business practices in Armenia”.

As Synopsys Armenia executive director Hovik Musayelyan stressed in his statement, the company was recognized for three major factors: promotion of U.S. and foreign investors by showcasing Armenia as a potential informational technology (IT) hub; collaboration with universities on IT training programs; and reduction of pollution levels by planting hundreds of trees to counter recent deforestation.

“This is a victory that needs to be shared. This said, I would like to bring to the spotlight and thank all those good people and organizations without whose support this recognition would never happen. First, I would like to thank both the current president Serzh Sargsyan and former President Robert Kocharyan for supporting our initiative of establishing two annual presidential awards: the first one for the Best IT Students and the second, the Global IT Award, which is granted to those outstanding personalities whose contribution to Humanity through IT has been internationally recognized. As you know both these award programs are designed to encourage the young generation and to give Armenia more visibility as a good potential hub for IT investments. My special thanks go to all the dedicated members of the award and selection committees, generous sponsors, and the All-Armenia Fund – to all those whose annual contribution made these program a success,” Musayelyan said.

“I can’t but express a special gratitude to all those wonderful colleagues from IT world, USAID, the Ministry of Economy and the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan for supporting and helping us to establish the ArmTech Congress, a world-class High-Tech industry forum held alternatively in US and Armenia . This forum is designed as a platform to bring together leading and start-up international high-tech companies, investors, academia, and government with the aim to improve Armenia investment climate for high-tech investors and again, to showcase Armenia as an attractive investment hub for this type of investments. My special thanks go to Rectors and the staff of the three leading universities of Armenia – SEUA, YSU and RAU, with whom we partnered to create three Chairs in Microelectronics, which these days roll out over 150 highly-qualified young microelectronic engineers and programmers annually. Synopsys is cooperating with hundreds of universities worldwide, but nowhere we went as far as we did in Armenia in enabling students to master the latest semiconductor design technologies,” Synopsys Armenia executive director stressed.

Synopsys, Inc., a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design, verification and manufacturing, announced today that the U.S. State Department has recognized Synopsys in Armenia among 12 finalists worldwide for the U.S. Secretary of State’s prestigious 2010 Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE). The finalists were chosen from a record number of 78 nominations submitted by American ambassadors around the world. ACE finalists are international business leaders who recognize the vital role that U.S. businesses play abroad as good corporate citizens. The Secretary of State has awarded the ACE since 1999 to recognize U.S. businesses for advancing good corporate citizenship, innovation and democratic principles.

Synopsys is recognized for the software company’s “promotion of U.S. and foreign investors by showcasing Armenia as a potential informational technology (IT) hub; collaboration with universities on IT training programs; and reduction of pollution levels by planting hundreds of trees to counter recent deforestation”.
