Political analyst at the European Integration NGO rendered replacement of the French mandate in OSCE Minsk Group with that of the EU too vague.

“No official document has been and will hardly be adopted. That’s a mere proposal by one of the European Parliament members,” Manvel Ghumashyan said.

According to him, the news is of no special importance as adoption of such a decision is hardly probable, first, and second, it won’t affect the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement.

“If France, as a leading EU member, doesn’t voice willingness to withdraw from MG, it is likely to continue its mandate in the format. Even if it is replaced by the EU as a whole, it will have a great impact on Minsk Group’s position,” the expert said.

On March 23, European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted a document on Armenia, proposing to replace France’s mandate in OSCE Minsk Group on Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement with that of the European Union. The document is to be put to vote at European Parliament’s plenary session supposedly in a month.
