Mia Wasikowska set for “Madame Bovary” role? April 2, 2012 - 18:06 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Mia Wasikowska could be set for another period piece with a role in Madame Bovary. The Jane Eyre star is apparently in talks to lead a new big-screen adaptation of Gustave Flaubert's influential novel, UKPA reported citing Variety. The Australian actress is tipped to portray Emma Bovary, a young woman who dreams of excitement and romance, but feels stifled by the repression of the male-dominated era. Paul Giamatti is also said to be chasing a role in the upcoming movie, which will be directed by Sophie Barthes. The upcoming production, which has been written by Rose Barreneche, is thought to remain faithful to Gustave's 1856 work, but will also highlight the book's "more youthful and contemporary themes". Jennifer Jones portrayed the heroine in the 1949 film, while Isabelle Huppert played the role in the 1991 French film and Frances O'Connor took the part in the British TV series in 2000. Mia, 22 - who has appeared in Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland and The Kids Are All Right - will next be seen opposite Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf in Western drama Lawless, and Park Chan-wook's English-language debut Stoker, alongside Nicole Kidman and Matthew Goode.
