GoDigital acquires Katherine Heigl’s “Zyzzyx Road” indie thrillerApril 11, 2012 - 14:50 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - GoDigital has acquired U.S. digital rights to the indie thriller Zyzzyx Road, which stars Katherine Heigl, Tom Sizemore and Leo Grillo. The film became notorious for grossing just $30 when it spent a single week in one Dallas theater in 2006, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "We love the story behind this film and are thrilled to be part of what we believe will be a happy ending," said GoDigital marketing director Barry Daffurn. "I am confident it will make us more than $30." John Penney wrote, directed and produced the film, in which a family man becomes involved with a femme fatale and her violent ex-boyfriend. Grillo also is an executive producer on the project. “The film’s DVD run in the worldwide market has been successful, and we are excited to finally move into U.S. households," said Grillo. "We know a lot of consumers are out there waiting, and pairing up with GoDigital on this was an easy decision." Greg S. Bernstein negotiated the deal. Although she had appeared in a number of films prior, Heigl was in her second season on the popular ABC series Grey's Anatomy when Zyzzyx Road had its brief SAG-qualifying release. It vanished in infamy as "the lowest-grossing film of all time," but the actress went on to star in successful comedies Knocked Up and The Ugly Truth.
