Prosperous Armenia splits into two wings - paper

Rumors on Prosperous Armenia splitting into two wings are increasingly gaining shape, Hraparak paper says.

One wing headed by the party leader Gagik Tsarukyan opts for tactic escaping any conflicts, ready to adopt the rules imposed by the Republican Party of Armenia. The other wing, being more radical and guided by Armenia’s former president Robert Kocharian, may go for confrontation.

Vartan Oskanian, ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs, is representing the second wing; some see him as Prosperous Armenia’s leader after the parliamentary elections in May.

The main argument for this is that Oskanian is a political figure, able to settle many problems in case he heads the party; for instance, he may represent the party abroad and make it acceptable for external forces thus boosting its profile, paper says.

According to Hraparak, Kocharian-oriented wing even considers the idea of nominating Oskanian as candidate for the presidential race in 2013.
