Oscar nominee Juliette Lewis to star in Fellini’s “Nights of Cabiria” remake

Juliette Lewis, an Academy Award nominee for her turn in “Natural Born Killers,” will star in “The Days of Mary,” a remake of Fellini’s “Nights of Cabiria,” which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1957, The Wrap reported.

Meg McGarry and Brad Michael Gilbert will adapt Fellini’s original screenplay, which he wrote with Ennio Flaino and Tullio Pinelli. Bob Fosse attempted this before, staging a 1966 Broadway musical and then adapting it into a 1969 film that earned three Oscar nominations but was a box office flop.

This re-imagining will chronicle the romantic adventure of a buoyant working girl hoping love will rescue her from her home of Reno, Nevada.

“The story is more relevant than ever - the triumph of a hopeful spirit in the face of a broken world,” Gilbert said in a statement. “Juliette was born to play this role. She’ll deliver the most vulnerable, humorous and heartbreaking performance.”
