Heritage party to hold congress on June 2

Leader of the opposition Heritage party Raffi Hovannisian commented on the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on May 6.

Hovannisian said Armenia and its citizens are facing huge system crisis, according to the party’s press service.

“The recent elections formed a deep gorge, more dangerous than ever,” party leader stated. According to Hovannisian, despite its democratic rhetoric, the ruling regime neglected the civil freedoms, constitutional rights and the principle of free will.

This resulted in another de-facto parliament, opposition politician believes.

“Unless we take immediate action to help parliament regain proper power and legal protection, our country will soon have to face another de-facto president,” Heritage leader declared.

Heritage will further pursue its modest public service, Hovannisian said thanking all those who cast their ballots in favor of their party.

He further noted that Heritage will hold its congress on June 2 to provide a detailed assessment of the situation in the state, as well as its vision of Armenia’s future.

According to the party’s press service, Hovannisian will meet journalists during and after the congress; his press conference previously scheduled for May 15 was cancelled.
