EU COMMISSAR WARNED SOUTH CAUCASIAN STATES OF SLOW AND UNCERTAIN PROCESS OF JOINING EU
Including the South Caucasian states in Enlarged Europe: New Neighbors program cannot guarantee further admission to the EU, EU Commissar Janosh Potoshnik told Liberty. In his words, the participation in the program only means that Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia expressed a wish to become members of the European Union. At the same time Mr. Potoshnik found that "from geographical, historical and cultural aspect the South Caucasian states have European roots". Therefore the answer will apparently be positive. However the EU Commissar warned that the process of joining will be a slow and uncertain one and called the South Caucasian states to display patience. According to him, including in New Neighbors program is already a victory and the states should avail themselves of the opportunity in corpore. The policy of "new neighborhood" from the economic standpoint is a step towards enlarged cooperation and deep integration into the implementation of reforms to be necessarily carried out", the EU Commissar said.
