Expert links Azeri sabotage with Clinton’s visit to Armenia

Political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan linked Azeri provocations of June 4 with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to the region.

“For many years the international community has urged Azerbaijan to uphold commitment to peaceful resolution of the conflict,” the expert said, noting changing the negotiation format, as well as underscoring and advancing Turkey’s presence as Azerbaijan’s goal.

He further commented on Clinton’s promise to raise the issue of inadmissibility of military solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict in Baku, “I’m sure the statements will have no impact, if they are issued on protocol level.”

On June 4, gross Azeri ceasefire violation was recorded in the north-eastern direction of Armenian-Azerbaijani border, with an attempt made to enter Armenian positions in Tavush Province of Armenia.

The attack was halted by Armenian soldiers’ brave actions. As a result of Azerbaijani sabotage, three Armenian soldiers (Mushegh Nurbekyan, Zohrab Balabekyan and Karen Davtyan) were killed. The violation also claimed wounded, according to RA Ministry of Defense press service.
