MONUMENT BEING BUILT TO ARMENIANS, WHO FOUNDED BUDENNOVSK RUSSIAN TOWN
A monument to Armenian migrants, who founded Budennovsk (Stavropol region of Russia), is being built in the town. As reported by Regions.ru, the construction works are carried out with the support of town entrepreneurs and the active participation of the Armenian community. According to the source, in the middle of the 18-th century having been provided with land by a decree of Emperor Paul I, Armenians founded there the town of Surb Khach (Holy Cross), later renamed Budennovsk. The monument is being erected in the old part of Budennovsk, called Karabakhla, where the first Armenians had settled. The opening of the monument is scheduled for the 205-th anniversary of the town.
