Today Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian met with representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey Ann-Birgit Albreksten, who is in Armenia within the frames of a regional visit at present. During the conversation the UN representative with satisfaction pointed out to the efficient interaction both with the Armenian state departments and non-governmental organizations. When commenting on the projects carried out to reduce the number of deaths during childbirth Ann-Birgit Albreksten reported that the index in Armenia has nearly come down to the level of the EU states. To note, the permanent representation of the UN Population Fund was opened in Armenia in 1995 with the aim to improve the situation in the sphere of reproductive health, contribute to the solution of population problems and struggle against the AIDS.
