Four NATO service members killed in attack in Afghanistan

Four NATO service members were killed Saturday, June 9 in an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan, the coalition said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in an email. Their spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid, said a Taliban suicide bomber attacked a group of French troops and Afghan police officers in Kapisa province’s Nijrab district. He said Afghan police officers were also killed in the explosion.

Afghan officials in the province did not immediately respond to calls seeking comment.

The majority of NATO troops in Kapisa province are French, but there are also other nations with forces there, including the United States, according to The Washington Post.
